A Jazz Winter's Eve
Local Revue Promises to Entertain and Inspire through Music & Dance
Bellingham, MA—On Saturday, January 28, 2017, at 8p.m., our theatre down the street, the Bellingham Marketplace Theatre, will play host to a unique entertainment experience, a song and dance revue. This cabaret-style event, produced by Denise “Red” Randall and her company Song Caravan, will present and explore simultaneous improvisation through two artistic mediums, live jazz and modern dance. The jazz selections will be performed by the David Ramsay Quartet. Joining Dave is Guitarist Craig Hlady, Bassist Greg Silva, and Drummer Randy Cloutier. The modern and improvisational dance will be performed by Vincent Brewer and Haley Kehoe. Randall has titled this event, “A Jazz Winter’s Eve.” “Jazz is all about improvisation; while there is usually structure to the improvised solos, the soloist is free to use a musical vocabulary to express him or herself. What we are doing is offering our dancers the same opportunity of expression except they are using a dance vocabulary to tell their story,” said Randall. “Dance improvisation blossoms when mime storytelling and form creation, sometimes abstract and other times recognizably reminiscent of real life, are courageously utilized. It's a real treat to have absolute freedom of expression for deeply musically sensitive dancers. This show will be filmed to capture the storytelling, form making, and the unpredictable daring moments.” Randall also plans to perform an original composition of her own, entitled “If I Must Go There.” In July of 2016, Song Caravan produced its first music and dance revue, Midsummer Colors of Jazz, at the Regent Theatre in Arlington, MA. The well-attended event set out to “tickle the imagination, to soothe the spirit, to alternatively create laughter, and ultimately, to inspire its audience,” said Randall, adding, “this current event, A Jazz Winter’s Eve, aims to inspire as well, but in a more intimate setting,” This 8 p.m. event is planned to run for an hour and a half and general admission tickets can be purchased at the door—$25 for adults and $20 for students and seniors (ID required). People interested in being in the audience this night can find more information about the event on the Song Caravan website, SongAndDanceRevues.com. The Bellingham Theatre is located at 799 South Main Street in Bellingham, Massachusetts. Free Parking is available.
