Make a day of it on Wednesdays at the Bellingham Senior Center and see why seniors have been coming to these activities for the last eight years. Start off with a social gathering from 9:30 to 10 a.m., where you may enjoy coffee, tea and pastries.

Follow that up by joining the chorus practice from 10 to 11 (new members are always welcome). Get a bit of light exercise for those lungs and improve your memory while you enjoy this group offering.

Then get a little body exercise by joining the “motion to music” group from 11 a.m. to noon.
You will surely enjoy sharing these activities with others who also have a love for singing and light exercise. There is no fee for any of these activities and you may come as you are and whenever you can. It’s also a good way to cool off on those hot summer days, since the senior center is air-conditioned.

You could join the chorus as it sings at town events and programs, as well as at occasional visits to area nursing homes.

“Giving back to the community and sharing is really what we are about and, of course, singing just for the fun of it,” explained Linda Trudeau, who coordinates these activities under the auspices of the Bellingham Cultural Council, in conjunction with the Bellingham Senior Center. “No music reading is necessary—we make it really easy to participate.”

The exercise class has great music from the 50s and 60s and beyond. These tunes will have you movin’ and groovin’ in no time. Rule number 1 is “enjoy yourself!” and rule number 2 is “don’t forget rule number1.”

Wear rubber-soled shoes and comfortable clothing. Bring a friend or make new ones. All this rolled into an hour or two every week. Then, if you feel like it, you could stick around for lunch and bingo and art class with Daryl Crow for a nominal fee.

A full day’s worth of activities just waiting for you to come and enjoy them. For additional information, please call the senior center or simply drop by the center while the activities are going on.

If you need transportation, don’t forget there’s van service available (call the senior center at 508-966-0398 in advance to schedule your ride). Hope to see you soon.
