May 21 was an unbelievable day for the athletic department at Bellingham High. Three of its sports team captured Tri Valley League championships and all of the titles came as a result of victories over Medfield.

The boys track team won its first league championship since 2001 by edging Medfield at the league meet in Westwood. Senior Wes Kudirka, the meet’s MVP, was a triple winner, taking first place in the long jump (20 feet, 7 inches), the 100-meter run (11.38 seconds) and the 200 (22.98 seconds). Other first-place efforts came in the 800 with Dan Schmith finishing strong and Isiah Rodrigues captured first in the 400.

The baseball team increased its record to 16-3 with a 3-0 triumph over Medfield. The victory clinched the TVL title outright for coach T.J. Chiappone’s nine. Senior Connor Birch pitched a complete game, yielding only four hits and striking out six.

Wrapping up the historic day for the Blackhawks was the softball team that posted a 4-1 victory over Medfield and increased its overall record to 18-1. Senior pitcher Megan Cook fired a three-hitter and struck out 13 while her battery-mate, Rachel Kuhlman, went 3-for-3, including a home run and a pair of doubles. Kuhlman finished the day with three runs-batted-in. The softball team’s title was a co-championship with Hopkinton.
