What are the Bellingham Women of Today?
The BWOT, a nonprofit civic organization, has served Bellingham and surrounding communities for over 35 years. It is one of six Massachusetts chapters of the United States Women of Today. This organization was founded in 1985 by former members of United States Jaycees Women. The United States Women of Today has more than 1,880 members in 13 states in America and Limassol, Cypress is our international chapter.
The Bellingham Women of Today have served our community through programs such as our annual Breakfasts with Santa and the Easter Bunny, Letters from Santa, Santa’s Elves Project for families in need, Easter Baskets for Meals on Wheels Seniors, High School Scholarships. We raise funds for our projects through selling items like our famous Butterbraid pastries and donations from businesses and individuals.
The goals of the Women of Today are threefold: to promote community service and involvement, to provide personal growth opportunities, and to offer leadership training to members. The individual who wishes to reach out and share her/his talents will find that Women of Today offers tremendous rewards and satisfaction.
As with any group, we are only as strong as our members. We are fortunate to have talented and enthusiastic women whose various backgrounds, interests and strengths, form a group committed to serving our communities and develop as individuals. We are a diverse group, some of us are working mothers, some single, divorced or widowed, some retired wanting to remain active. We all share the desire to give something back to our friends and neighbors and have fun, too. We plan many social events such as Girl’s Night Out to a movie, play or just for ice cream. We have our annual Salad Supper in August and year End Banquet in June. How about a Holiday Party and Yankee Swap in December or marching in the Memorial Day Parade?
We would like you to join us as we continue to serve our community. We meet in the Bellingham Police conference room on Blackstone Street on the second Monday of the month at 7:30, September through June.
