Drought Spurs Bellingham Water Ban

Letter to residents from town of Bellingham.

We are instituting a total ban on all outside water use. Customers cannot water lawns on any day, cannot wash cars or houses at any time. The only exception is that customers can hand water vegetable gardens.

This is a mandatory ban. It is being put in place due to a mechanical failure at one of the Town’s wells, in addition to the region wide level Tier 3 drought.

Compliance is mandatory for all water customers.

Compliance is vital for us to maintain standpipes at levels that will provide water to all customers and maintain hydrant pressure for fire protection.

Thank you very much to those who have been complying with the use restrictions.

We have no desire to fine customers for water use, but the situation is dire. The DPW will soon begin issuing written warnings that will be followed by fines per the town bylaws for those who do not comply.
