Expanded Hours Start After Labor Day

Monday & Wednesday 9:30 am to 8 pm; Tuesday & Thursday 9:30 am to 7 pm; Friday & Saturday 9:30 am to 3 pm. The library is closed on Monday, September 6th for Labor Day. We are pleased to open 30 minutes earlier each day, return some additional evening hours and reopen on Saturdays.

Updated Late Fee Policy

Although we will reinstitute charging late fees starting on September 1st, fees for some items have been reduced, many items now have a 5-day return grace period, and each week we will have Fee Free Friday.  See library website for details.

After-School Programs

Our After School Programs (ASK for grades 4-6 and Teen Room Activities for grades 7-12) will resume after Labor Day.  One-time in-person registration, with both the child(ren) and parent/guardian is required for the ASK Program.  Although the library will be closing at 3 pm on Fridays throughout the school year, our Friday afterschool program will go until 5 pm in the Community Room with a weekly movie.  If you have not already registered your child, you can do it any day after school.

September Special Programs

Medicare & Social Security —Learn Your Options, Wednesday, September 8, 2021, 6:30-7:30pm. Our first in-person workshop for adults in over 18 months.  This is an information-packed meeting providing key details about these two benefits. Erica Flood, an independent Medicare Benefits specialist, will help you understand your Medicare options here in Massachusetts.  What is Medicare?  Who is eligible?  And what is covered by each of the options?  If you have questions, she will be happy to answer them.

On the Social Security side, Kristen Heller and Sheri Delisle, Financial Advisors from Baystate Financial, will discuss who is eligible, factors that affect your benefits, and ideas around when it makes sense for you to file.

Registration is preferred but not necessary.

Stephano: The True Story of Shakespeare’s Shipwreck

On Monday, September 20, come to the library, 6:30-8:30 PM, to watch the 90-minute screening of the film Stephano: the True Story of Shakespeare’s Shipwreck, followed by a question-and-answer session with the filmmaker.

The film follows the story of the only Mayflower passenger who had been to North America previously.  A decade earlier, Stephen Hopkins had been aboard a Jamestown-bound ship that wrecked in Bermuda, inspiring Shakespeare’s final play, The Tempest. Shot on location, the intrepid Hit and Run History film crew retraces Hopkins’ life crisscrossing the Atlantic.
Two-time Emmy-nominated producer Andrew Giles Buckley and his film crew are hot on the trail of Stephen Hopkins, a Virginia-bound castaway who found his way not only onto the decks of the Mayflower a decade later, but immortalized on stage as the drunken Stephano in Shakespeare’s play The Tempest.

This program is supported by a grant from the Bellingham Cultural Council, a local agency which in turn is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. Registration is preferred but not necessary.
