UPTON – The Wellness Committee at Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School (BVT) has been organizing its annual Wellness Fair since 2012, which focuses on sharing information about the importance of physical and mental well-being with its employees.

Because 2020 has not been a typical year, amid a global health pandemic, the event was held virtually, with employees invited to “Zoom into Wellness” on December 16th. Held at a time when self-care and wellness are necessary, the fair focused on sharing tips and ideas geared towards taking a moment to refresh and reenergize.

The program offered sessions that included chair yoga; healthy holiday eating ideas; a closer look at stress and the immune system; maximizing your time vs. energy; simple food changes to improve your mood; meal prep tips; flex, stretch, & strengthening exercises; managing parent overload; and a seasonal craft on how to make a tissue-paper tree.

Before Zooming in, employees were treated to a delicious, well-balanced hot breakfast in to-go containers by Chef Eric Carlson & his team to allow staff to return to their classroom/shop/office to enjoy their morning and goodie bags.

Martha Pellegrino, Nutrition Educator, had helped preassemble the grab and go goodie bags. They included a Yoga Mat, a Yoga Brochure by BeyondHealth from Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, a book titled, Inspire to Act by Jennifer A. Borislow & Mark S. Gaunya, among other items to promote wellness, which was all possible through donations and the efforts of the BVT Wellness Committee Members: Eric Carlson, Rebecca Corda, Stephanie Dunham, Keara Holmes, Brian Lehtinen, Brian Locwin, Marcia MacWilliams, Julie Mitchell, Joann Monks, Martha Pellegrino, Rebecca Phillips, and Matthew Williams.

BVT is committed to providing a supportive work environment that encourages a healthy lifestyle. For additional wellness resources that are sure to inspire you to think, live, and be well, visit www.valleytech.k12.ma.us/healthwellnessblog.
