Blackstone Valley Tech Announces Manufacturing Skills Adult Evening Course

Part-time Advanced Manufacturing Foundational Skills program to begin in January

UPTON – The shortage of skilled workers is hitting the Advanced Manufacturing industry particularly hard as consumers nationwide push to bring American-made products back to store shelves. There are simply not enough machinists to operate the sophisticated, high-tech equipment. In response to this shortage, and the manufacturing industry’s projected 15 percent growth rate, Blackstone Valley Tech launched its newest Moonlight Program in Advanced Manufacturing Foundational Skills.

The adult, evening program grew out of the success seen every day in BVT classrooms and vocational shops. Its mission is to train men and women to enter and succeed in the growth-oriented Advanced Manufacturing fields. It is custom-designed for people looking to change careers or advance their careers through certifications.

The 15-week course will combine related theory and hands-on projects to teach adult students to program and operate computer numerical control (CNC) equipment and complete projects from concept to product. The $585 cost of tuition includes a toolbox, access to an online program manual, safety glasses, project supplies and materials, an application fee, and an ID fee.

In less than six months, beginner students will have mastered the skills needed to prepare for the MACWIC (Level 1) Certification Exam while more advanced students will have the opportunity to prepare for the MACWIC (Level 2) Certification Exam with their higher-level skills.

As BVT partners with some of the top advanced manufacturing employers in the region, students will also be given the opportunity to take advantage of the existing network of employers to pursue potential job opportunities.

Prospective students and employers are invited to learn more about the Moonlight Program in Advanced Manufacturing Foundational Skills at the Information Sessions on November 8th and November 29th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Information Sessions will include a tour of the high-tech manufacturing lab, an opportunity to meet the faculty, and a question and answer session. As space is limited, register for the event by visiting www.valleytech.k12.ma.us/amfsinformationsession.
