Studio B Dance Center, located in the Bellingham Marketplace, celebrated the end of their first year in business with a truly memorable weekend. Their Showcase of Stars, with the theme “New Beginnings” took place on Saturday May 21, at Millville Elementary School. The performance included both the recreation and competition-level dancers, ranging in age from 2 years through adult. From start to finish, the sold-out audience was entertained and impressed with each performance. The finale began with an all-time crowd pleaser, “The Dad’s Dance,” featuring fourteen brave fathers who were tasked to design their costume to represent the Studio B mascot!  Although the dance was filled with laughs and energy, the emotions turned quickly as each Dad was given time to share a special moment dancing with their child(ren) to the song “Stand By Me.”

The celebration continued into the evening with a unique and truly personalized Banquet Awards Dinner at River Falls Restaurant in Woonsocket, RI. Families gathered and dancers mingled throughout the night while sharing their highlights from the showcase with each other.  The awards presentation recognized each dancer. Pins were awarded to students who have danced for five and ten years.  Trophies were awarded to students who achieved highest recognition in each genre of dance. Special Award certificates were presented to students with personal achievements throughout the year.  Special sashes were handmade and awarded to students who met criteria for the principles guiding Studio B Dance Center’s mission: Be Strong — Ryleigh Sawash-Perro (Milford, MA); Be Confident – Lindsey Slayton (Medway, MA); Be Creative – Troy Wheeler (Franklin, MA); Be Positive – Devon Matos (Cumberland, RI); Be Supportive – Faith Gudaitis (Blackstone, MA); Be Ready – Jenna Grilli (Millville, MA); Be You – Gabby Millard (Attleboro, MA); and Be Together – awarded to the class exemplifying great teamwork and effort this year – Mini Company (pictured).  The two final awards were presented to Heather Milliken (Millville, MA) for Miss Congeniality and the Overall Star of the Year was Brooke Giovanella (Medway, MA) – one of the graduating seniors.

Studio B Dance Center offers classes in various styles of dance in both recreational and competitive levels. The studio is directed by Arlena Boyle (Upton, MA), a speech/language pathologist in the Shrewsbury Public Schools, and assisted by Nicole Brunelle (Blackstone, MA), a Bellingham native who is currently pursuing her degree in speech pathology as well. The Studio B Dance Center faculty and staff have been dancing and instructing for an average of 25+ years, and bring a fresh perspective on operating a studio drawing from their professional backgrounds in dance, theatre, education, communication, health, and corporate America.
