The gift basket bingo held in January to benefit Marge Lunt was an amazing success. Nearly 300 bingo players turned out, and raffle donations kept coming in even after the event started. There were many happy winners throughout the evening, with prizes such as a night out at Foxwoods Casino (part of a BHS operation graduation trip), and a Red Sox-themed basket that included tickets to the May 9 game ,at which the BHS band will perform. The two most coveted prizes were the Great Wolf Lodge basket and the Patriots basket, which included an autographed football by “Gronk” himself.

Marge’s daughters, Robin Remillard and Laurie Siravo, drew the winning tickets for the 50/50 raffle, which was almost a $200 winning hand, as well as the second Great Wolf Lodge gift basket.

The event itself raised over $8,000 (a small drop in a large bucket) and will help with the ongoing medical expenses that Margaret is facing since being involved in a serious car accident on her way to work last October. She has faced numerous surgeries and, happily, has now begun to walk on her left leg again; therapy is going well. She hopes to be able to leave the rehab facility to go home soon.
The two sisters would like to offer a very sincere thank you to the community for the outpouring of support for their mother during this difficult time that helped make the fundraiser such a success.

The baskets were all donated by the school staff, DPW staff, school administration and business office, Vet’s Liquors, and the lunch ladies from both the Bellingham and Blackstone school districts. We would also like to thank Stop and Shop Bellingham for helping us to be able to provide refreshments for the evening.

Amazingly, there are enough prizes left from the first event to warrant holding another fundraiser to help with additional medical expenses. The next fundraiser is a Beer & Dynamite supper slated for April 1 at the Woonsocket Elks Lodge, located just over the town line on Social Street. (A dynamite is a sub roll filled with ground beef and diced peppers and onions in tomato sauce with a hit of Tabasco—think spicy sloppy joes. There will be more raffles on hand, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and a DJ to dance the night away. We thank Chris Remillard from Bellingham Parts Plus for donating his DJ services for the evening.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $20/ea. from Robin (508-314-5637), Laurie (774 571-0898) or Shelly (774-306-6137).
