Town Institutes Seasonal Water Restrictions

Watering lawns or gardens during the hottest and sunniest part of the day is an inefficient use of water. The evaporation rate is high during this part of the day; therefore, a gallon of water used equals less than a half gallon of water getting to the roots of your lawn or plants. Therefore, the town of Bellingham has instituted the following restriction: no lawn- or garden-watering between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm, 7 days a week. This restriction is effective Immediately
This use restriction is the normal and annual restriction for Bellingham water customers (May 1st to October 1st). It is driven in part by the MassDEP Water Withdrawal Permits and is a good water conservation and money saving practice.
The DPW continuously monitors consumption and water tank levels. It will institute more stringent use restrictions if necessary to maintain customer household pressure and firefighting capabilities. For more information, visit www.bellinghamma.org
