“We treat the person, not the problem.” It is with this attitude that Paul Gerst and Cindy Meeske come to work every day. Gerst is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Natural Health Practitioner; Meeske is a psychotherapist and Reiki Master Teacher. Together, they own The Balanced Path Wellness Center in Medway.

“Our mission,” according to their website, “is to move you beyond the relief of symptoms and bring about optimal function and well-being through a comprehensive, personalized plan that includes proven approaches and techniques to effectively address mind, body and spirit.”
To start, The Balanced Path Wellness Center offers a comprehensive, free health evaluation to all new patients. This will provide an overview of your physical and mental health.

Gerst, who has been offering alternative care for 21 years, is on the lookout for things that people are doing that they shouldn’t—and things that they should be doing but are not. “I have to get patients to look beyond symptoms, to consider their lifestyle choices that can put immense stress on the body,” explains Gerst.

He may recommend acupuncture and offer diet/nutrition changes to put a patient on a path to well-being. “I don’t remember ever feeling this good,” reports one of his patients a few months after first meeting Gerst. Another simply said, “I’m glad I found you.”

Gerst, who lives in Bellingham, may refer patients who would benefit from mental health services to the co-owner of the Wellness Center.

Cindy Meeske has been practicing as a licensed psychotherapist for 17 years. She also offers a special kind of healing energy work known as Reiki. Many of her patients come to her for treatment of PTSD, anxiety and depression.

“I have been a client of Cindy’s for some time now,” begins one of many testimonials she has collected over the years. “She is a very supportive and compassionate therapist. I have also had Reiki sessions. Cindy is a true healer and her work left me feeling lighter and uplifted each time. I would highly recommend Cindy to anyone seeking a therapist and/or Reiki work.”
Meeske reports that clients are often attracted to her unique combination of traditional cognitive techniques and more alternative approaches such as meditation, mindfulness, and energy work. She says, “For many people, seeing that I am a Reiki Master in addition to a licensed social worker allows them to be open about their spirituality and often their own sensitivity to energy as it relates to their mental and emotional health or changes they want to make in their lives.”

The Balanced Path is one you can begin to walk without even leaving their office. You can access an array of alternative health care services offered by the two co-owners. Psychotherapy services at The Balanced Path are billed through insurance the majority of the time, while Reiki, acupuncture, and natural health services are paid directly by patients. Gerst says that he has been a cash practice for 21 years and finds that people value what they pay for.

According to Gerst, many of his greatest success stories are patients with chronic conditions who have tried multiple medical treatments and medications with little to no relief. By getting to the root of their issues, he is able to get them feeling better relatively quickly and on the road to recovery.
