Congratulations to Pauline Hamwey on winning the $500 gift certificate from Bellingham Electric as the finale of their recent renovation project celebration. As we reported in the December issue of the Bellingham Bulletin, the beautification and patio expansion project began in the spring of 2015. The patio expansion allows the appliance retailer to showcase their line of gas grills; they also installed a brand-new sign highlighting all of the brands of appliances that Bellingham Electric carries. Add to that a retaining wall and strip of grass, and voila!—an impressive, updated look that has drawn attention and positive feedback from thousands, as well as bolstered sales.

While presenting Hamwey with her gift certificate, store president Bob Allaire reflected: “I think it’s a combination of things that has led to the upturn in sales in recent months. The new exterior has definitely helped, but I also think that the economy is much better and the cost of fuel and heating oil is down, so people are feeling better about making purchases that they may have been putting off for a while, such as replacing older appliances with new more energy-efficient models.”

Former long-time Macy School teacher Pauline Hamwey, who is the wife of Bulletin Sports Editor Ken Hamwey, grew up in south Bellingham, in the area around Li’l General. The Hamweys now live in the north end of town.

“Of course I knew about Bellingham Electric, but reading about it [in the December issue of the Bulletin] reminded me about them—and we always make a point of shopping locally, especially with Bellingham Bulletin advertisers, whenever possible. I was very impressed with the improvements they have made.”

Hamwey had originally stopped in to check out microwaves and was again impressed—this time with the wealth of knowledge that salesperson Terry Gordon possesses. “He was so nice, and he was able to answer all of my questions about microwaves, which is something you don’t always find in the so-called ‘big-box’ stores. As I was leaving, he suggested that I enter their contest, so I did. We never win anything, so I was shocked to find out that my entry had been drawn.”

Hamwey says that she and Ken will probably put the $500 toward a gas grill, something they’ve been thinking of buying for some time now; and, of course, there’s still the small matter of that microwave…
