Kuros Meets with Clover Buddies 4-H Club

Jun 24, 2014 05:34PM ● By Pamela Johnson
Representative Kevin J. Kuros (R-Uxbridge) recently met with students and parents of the Clover Buddies 4-H Club of Bellingham to discuss the importance of civic engagement. The state rep explained how the legislative process works and can help protect the environment and agricultural concerns. He cited an example of how legislation that outlawed the pesticide DDT may have saved the American Bald Eagle population. In the fall, the group will have a mock legislative debate session on labeling genetically modified foods (GMOs).  Kuros will moderate the session.
β€œI am incredibly impressed and proud to see the attention and interest from the 4-H students in our community, and in becoming more civically engaged and articulating positions on issues they care about,” stated Kuros.
Group leader Mandy Deveno added, β€œAt 4-H, we nurture our future leaders. The parents and children are very excited to debate GMO labeling in the fall.”
The 4-H Foundation is the largest youth development non-profit organization in the world. The group focuses on activating young people to participate in solving contemporary challenges in their communities.  4-H has over 540,000 volunteers and 60 million alumni.
